Other information : As an incumbent Councillor I have worked hard to be a voice for E Ward residents ensuring their issues are well represented on council. I am a true local independent resident representing other local residents on local issues and not answerable to major political parties. I have lived in the Shire for over 22 years, owned and operated a local plumbing business and I am now a head teacher of Plumbing at TAFE. I am very passionate in preserving the ever-shrinking pristine bush land that has characterised life in this area. During my time in the Shire, I have served the community for many years including most recently 8 years as Chairman of the Menai West Barden Ridge Residents Precinct Committee and since September 2008 serving as your local representative on Council. As a Councillor dedicated to ensuring proper services are provided for the community I have served on the following: Finance, Resources & Management Committee, Active Communities Sub Committee, Aboriginal Advisory Sub-Committee, Strategy & Direction Committee, Sutherland Shire Economic Development Committee, Commercial/Community Facilities Opportunities Working Group, Community Crime Prevention & Safety Committee, “The Ridge” Advisory Working Party, Playing fields Taskforce, RTA Sydney Regional Forum, Sydney Coastal Councils group and as Co-Chair on the Sutherland Shire Youth Council. It has become increasingly apparent to me that the issue of maintaining the character of our area has never been more important to local residents than at the present time to protect what is left of our bush land from being lost to developers and to prevent our roads from being choked from further traffic congestion caused by over development. Change is an inevitable thing however it need not be at the expense of life style or the quality of life we all have come to know and love about the Shire. I acknowledge development needs to occur to ensure progress. However I will always say NO to any development proposal that impacts negatively on the Shire resident’s amenity and this includes the West Menai/Heathcote Ridge proposal.
